At the beginning of the 20^th century the American Locomotive Company was making a name for itself by building locomotives for the burgeoning railroad industry in the US. The company was established during 1901 and it was the result of a merging of more than 8 smaller companies. ALC was headquartered in NY,  and it would become such a dominant force that it steamrolled over the competition.
