Chery Motors: From Lack of License to Booming Production
By Fei Lim
Chery Motors is a large Chinese auto manufacturer that was founded back in 1997 to help spur some economic advancement when it comes to the automobile industry. The production of automobiles has been known to bring life to many areas in the United States, so as Wuhu (an area in China) became more and more in need of a bit of economic assistance, Chery Motors was established in the area and began functioning, using somewhat advanced Ford factory tools and operating things very much as automobile manufacturers operate in the United States.
However, good business was going for Chery automobiles in the very beginning, they had to appear under the guise of an automobile parts supplier and manufacturer rather than the manufacturer of fine automobiles. While they were able to hold up this guise for some time, it prevented Chery Motors from being able to sell their vehicles in the whole of China. This went on until 2001. At this time, Shanghai Automotive took part ownership of Chery Motors and the company was able to operate under the license of Shanghai Motors, thus enabling and allowing them to sell their vehicles inside Chinese borders. Since their merger with Shanghai Automotive, Chery Motors has been a great deal more successful when it comes to vehicle sales. They have obtained the necessary licenses and certifications necessary to conduct business itself, including the ISO 9001 certificate. In addition, they have even adopted some newfangled technology for their vehicles, including a rather newly developed paint system called the DURR Paint System. This System has been in place since early 2004.
Since their takeoff, Vision Vehicles is yet another company that Chery Motors is using to improve themselves and that of its partner companies. Malcolm Bricklin, an American entrepreneur, has things in the works to get Chery Motors to be a household name in the United States by having them sold at various dealerships all over the United States within the next several years.
If you thought the name Chery Motors was too close to Chevy Motors, you were not the only one that this occurred to. Chery Motors will operate under a pseudonym once the vehicles are set for release in the United States as the name is too close to Chevy Motors, and the name has been trademarked by the General Motors company in the United States.
Chery Motors has had a few cars developed that are no longer in commission. In the same respect, with the up and coming emergence of Chery Motors on the scene in the United States, more and more of these Chery Motors concept cars are in the works all the time. As of yet, no names of these vehicles have been released, so Chery Motors fans will just have to wait and see what is coming.
As of 2007, Chery Motors is the third largest producer of automobiles in the country, with an estimated sales of nearly 400,000 vehicles. This is quite impressive for a company that, less than 15 years ago, was unable to sell cars in the country of China due to license restrictions.
So when should you start looking out for Chery Motors? They have a Chinese website for Chery Motors, www.Chery.cn, that has all of the information on Chery Motors a person could ever want.
When Chery Motors bursts onto the American scene, all of the business dealings and negotiations will be well worth it. They are currently making deals and signing agreements with businesses throughout the world and setting up for a successful financial future and dependable, hardy cars all around the world, including South America. While they operate mostly out of their factories and dealerships in China, Chery Motors even has financial interests in the country of Iran as they have a plant built in Iran as well.
